Spiritual Thanksgiving: A 5-Day Morning Dedication

In Won Buddhism, December 1 is observed as Spiritual Thanksgiving (Myongjeol Daejae in Korean)—a joint memorial service to honor all sages, ancestors, family members, and friends who have passed away. Though their physical presence is no longer with us, their love, wisdom, and guidance continue to shine within us and illuminate our lives.

Just as Thanksgiving invites us to gather in gratitude, Spiritual Thanksgiving calls us to extend that gratitude to those who came before us—to remember, honor, and celebrate the lives that have shaped our own.

To prepare for and commemorate this meaningful time, we invite you to join a 5-day morning dedication from Tuesday, December 1 to Saturday, December 5, held daily from 6:00–7:00 AM (ET) on Zoom. We encourage you to join us for all 5 mornings to cultivate consistency, but if you can’t attend daily, you’re warmly welcome whenever you’re able—each session is whole and complete on its own.

This special offering is a way to weave remembrance into your daily practice and to honor the lives of those who have touched your heart.

Daily Practice Includes:
• Gong (10 times)
• Four Bows
• Sitting Meditation (40 minutes)
• Prayer Reading
• Il-Won-Sang Vow & Heart Sutra
• Morning Prayer Song

Register HERE to join us via Zoom and/or to submit the names of loved ones you wish to honor during this dedication. Whether or not you are able to join online, the temple gyomunims will include all submitted names in the dedication. As you submit names, we warmly invite you to consider making a memorial donation in their honor.
