Name: Greta G.
Dharma Name: Jamyong (자명, 2021)
Practice Background: I have been on a spiritual journey for most of my life and discovered Won Buddhism over 15 years ago. I was drawn to this practice because of the welcoming nature of the community and the equal treatment of both female and male ministers. I also appreciate the rational and compassionate approach of Buddhism.

Won Buddhism Background: Won Buddhism Background: I visited many temples before finding Won Buddhism. Some practices were too strict, while others lacked a supportive community. Won Buddhism was the fit I was seeking.

Profession: I work in human resources within the education sector.

Hobbies or Interests: I find great joy in the company of my family, friends, and pets, all of whom significantly enrich my life. I am also dedicated to lifelong learning and value the knowledge I gain through various means. Whether I am exploring literature or taking a range of classes, from programming to painting, I actively seek opportunities for personal and intellectual growth.

A Dharma book you recommend: The Heart of Buddha’s Teachings by Thich Nhat Hanh; The Pocket Pema Chodron by Pema Chodron

A Dharma phrase or teaching that stays with you: “We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts.”

What brings you joy or makes you laugh these days? Bringing joy to others gives me great happiness, whether it is being kind to someone or providing my pets with enrichment.

A favorite moment or memory from your practice or time with the Sangha: When I can attend the dharma service, I especially enjoy it when we engage in thoughtful discussions afterward. It offers a valuable opportunity to reflect on the insights presented during the dharma talk and to explore ways to enhance our practices.

Advice for someone new to practice: Be kind to yourself, and your practice will be kind to you.
